Organizing My iTunes Library, Working on Original Compositions, & etc.

Hello everyone!!!

This is my debut on G.A.N.G and I’m very excited to be a part of a network for aspiring game music composers and developers alike! So, to begin, just a little about myself. I’m Joshua Roland Carraway and I’m 25 years old. I’m currently a student with Full Sail University and I’m working toward a BA degree in Music Production. I have a passion for music that spans back many, many years. It really begin in earnest when my dad introduced me to a New Wave band called The Cars. I fell in love with the quirkiness of the band members and also the rock/synth styles melded together with great songwriting and hot guitar laeds from Eliot Easton. From there on I beign exploring other artists and bands, building my respect and love for music. Eventually I began thinking about wanting to learn to pay guitar, but I hadn’t quite become serious about it yet.

Through all this time I had become a huge fan of Sonic The Hedgehog, playing the classic games on the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive. I had heard about the coming Dreamcast and it’s launch game, Sonic Adventure, and had even managed to get my parents to pre-order it for me. Once I was able to finally play the game and hear the music, I was completely blown away. Hearing the soundtrack that was composed by Jun Senoue, Fumie Kumatani, Kenichi Tokoi and Masaru Setsumaru, I was amazed at the sound quality and also the variety of styles that were performed and how well they blended together to make the game a more complete experience. Hearing Jun’ s unique brand of rock/metal made me realize, for the first time, that rock music could be present in a video game and, indeed, be a major genre to work with and influence the action in a game. Needless to say, this was a revolutionary and eye opening experience and revelation for me. This essentially opened me up to the idea that I wanted to become a guitar player and work in the video game industry.

With all that being said, I have since gone on to become a self-taught guitar played who is still learning about production and music theory. I am very skilled at musical intuition and I believe that that can be just as important as a solid music theory background. Through study, trial and error, compositions and collaborations, I plan on becoming a very capable game music composer and producer. My dream job would be to work at SEGA with Jun Senoue, but I’d definitely go for working on anything related to music or video games. For now, I leave this as an introduction into myself, my aspirations and some of my interests. I also inserted a picture of some of my favorite video game related albums.
