GANG Fall SUMMIT Announced!

gdc 2012

Wed, Sept 26th, Pyramind in San Francisco, 7pm

Philosophy of Music Design in Games: Portal 2 and FEZ

GANG & Pyramind are proud to present an evening with two of the game industry’s most interesting people. Composer/sound maker/game maker, Rich Vreeland (Disasterpeace)discusses his philosophy behind his soundtrack for the indie game hit, FEZ. FEZ gained a lot of press, not only for it’s many pre-release awards but also for it’s inclusion in the film, INDIE GAME, The Movie.

Our other speaker, Mike Morasky (VALVE) will discuss his audio/music work in the award winning PORTAL 2, which blurred the line between music and sound design, and had some extremely clever audio implementation that was deeply integrated into the game design. Following the talks will be a panel and Q/A session to discuss some of their game audio philosophies in further depth.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend a AES conference lately, you should be aware of the GREAT game audio workshops, panels and talks that are being offered at the AES. This year’s Fall AES is being held in San Francisco from Oct 26-29th. The last few years have shown a wide variety of talks in game audio and you might have a look at their site to check it out.

Also at AES will be a speed mentoring session from SPARS, and this year mentors include Elise Baldwin, Paul Lipson, Dren McDonald, and Tom Salta. You can register for the speed mentoring sessions here.

GANG Q-CHALLENGE (Summer edition)

THE Q Challenge is BACK

The new challenge:

1) Your composition or sound design piece MUST have at least 1 LIVE instrument/sound (recorded with a microphone) as part of your entry!

2) You can collaborate…or not…we leave it up to you (this might be a good idea if you only play piano and do not own any mics…find a friend on the site who can contribute!)

3) The theme "Play me a song, tell me a story"

Go to the forum post NOW to enter, and simply state that you are taking part in the challenge so we know how many folks are in.

Everyone (participants are required, and anyone else who wants to vote…) will vote openly in another forum thread (to be opened later) to determine the winners.

WINNERS will get something really cool! Last winners won sample libraries, SFX etc, with prize totals worth over $2000!

Your final entries will be due August 31st!

Borislav and I look forward to participating and also hearing what everone comes up with this time!
