Gareth Coker Interview
This month we spoke with composer Gareth Coker about his work on ARK: Survival Evolved. In 2016 Coker’s work for Ori and the Blind Forest was nominated for 6 G.A.N.G. Awards, winning 4 awards, including Rookie of the Year. He was also honored with the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences award for Outstanding Music Composition and SXSW Gaming Award for Excellence in Musical Score, and his success in the field led to him being recognized as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for his significant contribution to the music profession. We had a chance to talk about the process of composing for Steam Early Access titles, composing for large open world environments and working with orchestra.

New East Coast Regional Director
The Game Audio Network Guild proudly welcomes Spencer Bambrick as the new East Coast Regional Director.  Tom Salta has served for years as the East Coast Regional Director and welcomed Spencer to the role. “Spencer Bambrick has proved his commitment over the years to fostering our game audio community here in the New York Tri-State area and beyond. I’m thrilled to welcome him as the new East Coast Regional Director for G.A.N.G.”

Spencer Bambrick is a composer, sound designer, and lecturer currently living in Hudson New York. He is excited to step into his role as Regional Director. “I have always wanted to be a part of the video game industry. Very early on I knew that I wanted my role to be a music and sound creator. Being involved with G.A.N.G. has since given me the knowledge and confidence to enter the industry, and is a large reason why the game industry is so special – community. I’m incredibly excited to do my best to foster this sense of community in the Northeast, and to provide the same resources and support that I was lucky enough to receive.”

Welcome aboard Spencer!!

Sally-Anne Kellaway: VR Innovator

Sally-anne Kellaway named VR Innovator by Variety Magazine

Sally-anne:  I’m honoured to be named as one of 10 VR Innovators to Watch by Variety magazine.  To be recognised for evangelising Audio for VR and AR and for my work on the Virtual Reality Content Creators Network of Australia confirms my belief that niche markets and industries are incredibly important in VR and AR both creatively and for innovation and growth.  We all know how challenging it can be to get people to ‘pay attention’ to something they literally use all the time to hear, and seeing Variety recognise the role of Audio within VR is exciting.
